Mekeisha Alcock
Miss River Raisin Festival 2008

Mekeisha Alcock, Miss River Raisin Festival 2008, was crowned in July at the festival's 25th anniversary celebration. She is seeking a  degree in communications disorders, and has a love of sign language.  Mekeisha very actively promotes her platform of "No Means No: Sexual Aggression Prevention and Awareness."

She organized Mekeisha's Dress Drive Extravaganza to raise money for  the Catherine Cobb Domestic Violence Shelter, where she is a volunteer, and also as a means of raising girls' awareness of prom night safety. She has participated in Take Back the Night and especially enjoys her work with Children's Miracle Network.  Raised on a farm, she's a prize-winning livestock showman and can handle a steer with the best of them. Through FFA, she has made presentations to school children about the importance of the River Raisin and she plans to continue her river advocacy as Miss River Raisin Festival.

For her Miss Michigan talent, she will present a rock-and-roll drum solo, which may be a first on the Miss Michigan talent stage!  She is a Sand Creek High School graduate, attended Central Michigan University and is currently a communications student at Jackson Community College.
